Community Roots
“ Everyone's bodies are not meant to eat a lot of processed, pesticide filled foods, so we are excited to learn how to grow more organic and eat healthier.”
- Tina Santos, Community Roots Partner
In the Spring of 2015 Noonday Farm received a generous grant from Heywood Healthcare Foundation to launch the Community Roots Program. With the goal of making local, organic and nutritious food more accessible to everyone, Community Roots has three main components:
- Food For Home: We work with local families to help them grow organic produce in their own gardens.
- Food For Thought: Workshops for families about organic gardening, nutrition, cooking, and food preservation.
- Food for All: The Foundational work of Noonday is to raise healthy food for those who need it most. 90% percent of what Noonday Farm produces is donated to local organizations that provide food for families experiencing poverty and food insecurity. Volunteers make this possible.
Tina is the mother of one of the strong and dedicated families partnering with Noonday in the Community Roots program. “My husband and I have twin daughters and we have numerous health issues so need to eat healthy as possible” Tina explain. “One of our daughter has ADHD and sensory processing disorder. Because food dyes/preservatives and pesticides in food has been linked to hyperactivity and health problems we choose all natural and/or organic foods as much as possible but they are expensive.”
